Hey readers! I have been wanting to make some changes to my blog. What I really need to do is take a crash course in blog design so that I can set up my own blog to suit my needs, but until then, I can be found here at HE{ART}. I separated my blog last year to have a space for my art and a space for my ramblings. I also started facebooking a lot more. The result was a neglected blog(s). I am finding that I want to share more of my heart and more of my art. It's all a part of being TRUE to myself and to others. Inspired...

I read both Lee's blog and Ali's blog, but I saw it on Lee's first and it inspired me to post some things that inspire me, as well.

Color: Well, I tried. I tried and tried, but I could not pick just one color. It's because these colors here, TOGETHER, are what really inspire me. The colors of autumn. I decorate my house in these colors and anything I see in these colors always catch my eye. I also find myself reaching for these colors when I create whether it be painting, scrapbooking, card making... I just love the warm, rich and inviting feel of them.

Font: Scriptina I just got done doing two wedding gift albums and I used this font several times in each of them. I just love it's clean, but sophisticated lines.

Pattern: These days, my favorite pattern is a swirl. I love swirly, curly embellishments and flourishes. Even better is when I see the swirly flourishes on a tree. LOVE trees.

Shape: The Circle Faithful and neverending, you always bring me comfort...and yes, I had to sneak in a tree and my favorite colors again. lol

Letter: M... My best friend's name is Marco. My last name starts with M, my little guy's name starts with M, one of my best friends' name starts with M... Yeah, I like it a lot. =)

Number: The Big 4-0... Yup. In a little over a week, I will be celebrating my 40th birthday. I remember thinking that 40 was such an old age...WOW. Now it's just around the bend and I couldn't be happier. With age has come wisdom. I am looking forward to being a better me...

Word: True This was my One Little Word for the year and I really feel that I have tried to stay true to myself and to those around me. I am on a continuous journey to find out what really is TRUE in this life.

Halloween Post Card Swap Received!

Do you remember the Halloween Post Card swap that I talked about HERE? Well, I just got back four post cards in return and I love them. This swap was prompted. That means there were certain elements that we all had to include. I love seeing everybody else's take on the assignment. I also love that our hostess, Sarah, is always so generous about tucking in a little goody for us. =) Well...let's see what I've got!

This one came from Elayne in Texas. I love all the texture and the clay moon.

This one is from Stacy. I love the stitched on ribbon and the detailed memory on back. The paper even felt velvety.

I love the bling and glitter on this one. I also like how she used bubble wrap (I think) to stamp some texture onto the card. This one was from Kim.

Okay, is this one creepy or what??? I love the tree stamp and the orange and black background on this one. Also love the glittery spider in the corner. *shiver* Thanks Lyn!

Doodle Challenge...

A few months ago, I joined a couple Yahoo Art groups so that I would be motivated to complete challenges and swaps and to learn and share new techniques. I have really enjoyed these groups and have learned so much. This one focuses on Art Journaling. The moderator is Sarah. She is so talented, but more importantly - she is generous. She is generous in sharing her knowledge, her inspiration, her personal art work and even in sharing things like this:

She recently had a doodle challenge over at the group and the theme was animals. Well, I doodle animals for my children all the time. So I doodled some of our favorites and posted them to the site. To my surprise, I was chosen as the winner for that challenge! Woo Hoo! Well, I had no idea what I had won. I was just so excited. This was the package that came for me.

For someone like me, this is a treasure chest of goodness. You can click on the picture to see up close, but there are so many wonderful things here. Vintage ads and comic book pages, stamps from all over, cool napkins and tissue paper, pages from some really neat books of poetry, music and even Alice!

My favorite item in the package was this original art piece from Sarah. I just love that she included this little piece of her. Of course, my girls were all trying to claim it for themselves. Very cool.

I kept finding more and more treasures. There was a little paper bag that I thought was empty, but when I went through my stash for the third or fourth time, I felt that it was full. These adorable little cards were in there. Love the witty sentiments that go along with the vintage photos. There are also some Chinese playing cards and one with Frida on it.

Then I found the tiniest little baggy that must've gotten shuffled along with the larger pieces. I opened it up to find these wonderful stamps and curious cigar wrappers.
Lots of fun and inspiration in one package. I'm already using some of the Vintage Christmas sheet music for some ornaments I am working on for a swap.

Got my button swap back!!

I love getting mail! Don't you??

Okay...so not all of this is from the button swap, but I also won a challenge from the same person that was hosting the swap - so she sent it all together. I will tell you about the other goodies in my next post. =) The little package with the angel fairy on it IS from the button swap though. It was an extra goody that Sarah through in there.

So, as you know, I sent 12 buttons in and I received 12 sets of buttons in return. Wow. How creative are these? I loved them all, but especially loved the ones that had a personal touch added to them. There were buttons sewn on material shapes, unique playing cards, library catalog cards, printed and altered images, cereal boxes, altered tags and canvas and even one tied to some really cool yarn. Fun!

Then Sarah added a little package of vintage ephemera. So essential to altered and mixed-media art. Just a treasure for those that use it. Very cool stuff. So glad that I participated. =)

More Inspiration!!

I left my art journal on the table. I had just gesso'd the page and was allowing it to dry and I had some paint on the pallete from another project. I came back to my journal to continue working on it and the page was covered in blue and magenta. I immediately called for Marco and he denied having anything to do with it. Of course, he was covered in paint - you could say he was cought red - um, magenta handed! =) I was going to tear this page out, but decided to go ahead and blend it with a little more gesso and then I let it dry. I loved it. It was from my guy and I didn't mind at all. He is my inspiration in the first place! My Curious George. I love looking at the world through his eyes. I added a recent picture from his third birthday and was very pleased with our combined efforts.

Then there's Naomi. This girl just loves to create. She got loads of money for her birthday (as I've mentioned in a previous post) and wanted to buy art supplies with it. Here she is with some water colors. She just turned 5 a couple weeks ago, but she is so independent. She did not need or want any help. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Working hard...

We finally had to get some paper towels out because this girl was on a roll. She was knocking out paintings left and right. When I saw her working on this one, I asked her where she got the idea. She replied, "It's just in my head and I want to get it out." Wow. I liked that! Often times, I will have an idea, but I chicken out and never try it. There will be something that I want to create, but will second guess myself.

Not this girl... She has no fear when it comes to expressing herself. What a lesson she has taught me!

Finished product. I think this one needs to go in a frame - what do you think?

I really, really am thankful for the world wide web. Seriously. I have been making more time for my art. I am definitely on a creative journey. I've started to see that all the doodles, painting, scribbling, pasting, .... there are other people that do it too!!

So, I found Sarah at Caspiana. I found her through a Yahoo group and now I am hooked. She posted a doodle challenge on her blog that I thought was really cool - so I gave it a try. Just to see. I thought it was a lot of fun. I made my first couple attempts at it in my art journal. I liked how the first one turned out, but I loved the second one. Read her directions here, but basically what you do is:

1. Take a thin black permanent marker and just scribble/doodle a pattern. Then take some time to look at your doodle and see if any patterns or shapes jump out at you. Like looking for shapes in the clouds.
2. Now, you darken the lines to pull your character out of the drawing and then run with it. This is what I got...

Finish off... I just got done doing the poppy painting, so I still had poppy fields on the brain. =)
I journaled that mommy was not a monster. Just 'cause she wants things a certain way, wants the best for her children, her family, wants the best for her home... She gets cranky or edgy sometimes when things don't work out - but she's not a monster. hahaha
This was my second try and I really like it. This is my SLUG BUSTER. I was getting pretty sluggish in my art room. I got to where I'd rather watch videos of others creating instead of me getting my hands dirty and instead of me feeling challenged to express myself...until the Slug Buster came along. She was not going to have any of that. I thanked Sarah for being an Inspiration to me. My boy has also been hanging out with snails lately...always bringing them in for me to see, so that's probably why both my creatures have slug tendencies. haha. Again, I used watercolor, gesso, acrylic wash and walnut ink.

The other place I've been finding lots of inspiration is at Donna Downey's blog. Oh.wow. I would really love to buy one of her journals, but it's a bit pricey for me right now. She posts an Inspirational Video every Wednesday and they are nothing fancy. Just her creating. I was inspired by one of her videos where she did poppies just like this (I am not hiding that my poppies were totally copying hers, but that's what I wanted to do.) - she used some text from a book (Eclipse, I think) and I used some text from Pride and Prejudice of course. =) That's what I made the flowers with. Then I chose words that represented areas that I felt I was growing in or in which I needed to grow...
The colors are super bright and I love it. Lots of acrylic paint, black beads, gesso...oh, how I love gesso...

Anyway, I am loving the journey. I am really, really wanting to change up my blog. I'd like to have one blog with tabs and maybe split up my week to talk about my interests more evenly. Naomi's birthday pick!

My Naomi had money to burn! She got lots of money and gift cards for her 5th birthday and guess what she wanted to buy with it? ART SUPPLIES!!! Hullo! That's my girl. =)

She's only made one purchase so far, but she wanted this finger paint set.

It was so colorful and fun, but the mess! oh the mess!

This was created by Hannah who is 14 and too cool to have her own set but couldn't keep her hands out of her sisters set. haha.

I love it. It cleans up quickly and easily enough. I'm not going to stop them. Would you?

Out thrifting...

...and look what I found!! Well, before I get into what I found, let me first say that I am so thankful for a husband that totally understands my need to "get away" and just do what I need or WANT to do once in a while. As a mother of four children under the age of 14, it is hard to find "ME" time. Know what I mean? It's an even bigger need for me now that I am staying home with my youngest. He is the joy of my life, but let's face it, he is THREE years old. I've got to be eye-balling him every minute of the day or there could be catastrophe. Besides that, I really think he needs more of my attention than ever right now.

So, my husband said that we should schedule in some time a couple times a week where he would totally take responsibility for the kids, the house, whatever and I could go do what I do. Wow! Thank you sweet man! He's a dream, right??? =) Well, I am a simple woman and me having time to myself means that I get to go to my favorite little thrift stores, yard sales, antique shops - without little hands to pick up everything along the way and recklessly chuck it back to the shelf when I say "no, no!"... Sometimes, it just means going to get a coffee at the bookstore and take my sweet time looking at whatever I want... whatever. It's MY time.

So this Saturday, don't rush me!...I'm getting to it.... This Saturday, I only had about $14 that I wanted to spend as I hunted down some yard sales and church rummage sales. I like setting a price that's $20 or under and that makes it a challenge, but keeps me from bringing home just any old thing that catches my eye.

The three things that I am posting about were all found at a multi-family yard sale. About 20 families lined the street with their goods and I was in heaven.

I got these two adorable silver spoons for 10 cents a piece!! These are going to be altered in some way and you are going to see them again...although you might not recognize them next time. haha!

Then I came across this grapevine pumpkin and pear. They're huge! $3 for the pair. I am thinking on putting some white lites in them and keeping them inside my front door. You know how I love my fall decor all year long! =D

Lastly, my find of the day or month or year...haha are these vintage SCRABBLE games!! I have been watching these on ebay, but the shipping for them just make it too much for me. I really just wanted the racks and tiles. You know what I want them for!! For my art room and my altered art!! I got them for $2 a game. I was so happy.

I also got some books for 25 cents a piece...always a good find for me. I can't wait to show you all what I come up with for these new found treasures. Any good finds for you lately? I need to know what all to keep my eye out for - so tell me!!

A few weeks ago, Rita was celebrating her 100th blog post and decided to do a give away to one lucky commenter. To my surprise - I was the winner! I felt like I had won the lottery. Well, I guess I did win the Mixed Media and Altered Art lottery, huh? =D

I loved every bit of it, but especially loved the old post cards, envelopes and the cancelled check from the late 1800's. The vintage labels were really cool and I've got all sorts of ideas for the beads, buttons and other items. My favorite item in the bag though, has to be the Lillian Russell tag that says, "She dreamed." Just looking at this tag is an inspiration.

Now that my post cards are ready to go, I was able to have some fun making a little gift for the hostess of the swap. This is an altered mini-file folder and tag. I had a great time using some fun stamps as well as some vintage sheet music, mulberry paper, and vintage ephemera.

Halloween Post Card Swap (Prompted)

This is my first post card swap. I am new to a mixed-media/art journaling group and I wanted to jump right in and get involved. It was exactly what I needed to kick start me back into my studio.
This swap was prompted. This means that there were certain obligations that we had to fulfill when completing the cards. Here were the prompts:
*Size: 5 3/4" x 4 1/8"
*Add Orange and Black
*Needs a brad to make some kind of moveable element
*Must include a Jack o'lantern or Pumpkin
*Write a Halloween memory or favorite treat on the back.

Art journaling...

I can't think of a time in my life when I didn't keep a diary or journal of some sort. I've always been addicted to doodling, dabbling in my own version of artful expression, lettering...you name it. I've got stacks of notebooks and journals filled with my words, woeful tales, poems, quotes, thoughts, doodles...
I just recently joined a couple Yahoo groups so that I could connect with others all over the world that were interested in this very same thing. I've started to pull out art pads, journals, paints and old magazines again and I've been kind of on a journey I guess...just playing, thinking, praying, being... I'm having fun, but more importantly, I'm finding that I missed doing this. I think facebook has kind of hogged up my blogging/journaling time. Don't get me started about my quiet time and prayer. Ha. Thank the good Lord, I saw that very early on and didn't let it get in the way, but now I am doing what I love again.
I'm going to post a few pages here and there. I won't want to share all of them on here...but I will post some from time to time.
Some of these were inspired by journal prompts from the groups or on-line ideas....

Stress Management: Just a few things that help me to unwind. I thought this was a better page to post than Stress Makers: the things that set me off! haha.

Whimsy Jar Spoiler

I signed up for a Whimsy Jar swap that I'm really excited about! It's just for fun, but you state the color theme you'd like and then someone gets your name and you are assigned someone as well.
My person obviously requested red, white and blue. One of the rules is that it needs to contain scrapbook items.
I've had this wide mouth Ball jar for quite some time and it was perfect for the swap!

I used Stamin' Up Land That I Love set. I heat embossed the flag and the stars.

I used a vintage button in the back. There is so much in that jar. Some of the items include gems, prima flowers, scrapbook mints, ribbon, tape runner, buttons, cat's eye chalk, bling, alphabet mini stamps and more! I hope she likes it. I will post pics of mine when I get it so that you all can see what I get! =)

I have been playing with Gesso, Gel medium, paints, magazines...whatever...in my art journal. My daugther Taryn wanted to see what I was making and I really just needed her to leave me alone for a bit. I was in the groove, you know? So after she left, I felt kinda bad and decided to make this for her. haha.

She loves the Gecko from Geico. She just thinks he's adorable. Calls him her boyfriend...um, yeah. He's a lizard. Anyway, one of our favorite lines from a movie comes from Remember the Titans, where the guy says, "He's from Cali-for-nya! You know, Cali-for-nya!" To which the girl replies, "Yeah, California dreamboat." We just love that. We're weird like that. haha.

So this is some cardboard, gesso, acrylic paint, magazine page, varnish, prima flowers, stickles and ribbon.

Red, White, and Blue...

We are having a 4th of July BBQ after our services at church. I thought it would be fun to put together some quick centerpieces to give things a more festive look tomorrow. I got the tin pails and the bandanas for a $1 each and the flags were 3 in a pack for $1 - all in Target's dollar spot...where else? =)

Cootie Catchers and Centerpieces...

Cootie Catchers...just typing it makes me chuckle. I don't know what else to call these little things. Remember folding these and labeling them ever so carefully in grade school? Some people call them 'fortune tellers'...either way - they've got another great use. Candy dishes!

I used 12x12 scrapbook papers for these, but you could make them with any size square sheet of paper. Loved how they turned out, but wasn't as crazy about the little heart picks that I added. They were a little top heavy and kept leaning - not too bad though.

The other things I did as center pieces for this years Valentine's Banquet was a frame that I picked up at the dollar store and added our theme, a clear vase filled with a "velvety" rose" and Red Hot candies (also purchased at the dollar store) and the black tin planter with the roses. I bought the black tins at Wal Mart on clearance and then got the roses at Michael's for 99 cents for a bunch of 6 flowers.

I liked how everything turned out this year. Did all of them in one evening.

Oh! It's been here all along...I guess I am the one that's been missing. Wow. My life just got CRAZY busy ever since I started back to work full-time outside of the home. I used to stay up late and wake up early to blog and play in the craft room...now I stay up late to grade papers and wake up just in time to get everyone ready and out the door for school. *sigh*
I really need to get it together, right?? After all, if I am going to be TRUE (see my other blog), then I'm going to have to be true to myself! Anyway...here is just a little something that I did tonight. Two etsy orders! Woo Hoo! I promise I will do some fun stuff for myself soon.

This mailbox is a custom order for a sweet boy out there somewhere. I also have Hello Kitty, Hannah Montana, Thomas the Tank Engine, Sponge Bob, and more.

This is for the same person and it is a school/teacher theme. I would be glad to make one for any occupation or theme.

I teach a ladies Bible study class every Sunday and I often give out little incentives for the ladies to do memory work of the Scriptures. I have given them things like: Burt's Bees lip balm, chocolate Fling bars, Altoids, decorative pumpkins...basically my favorite things. So, I decided that I would make up some little note cards and give them a set of two each. Just for fun. No envelopes, just like this.

I used DCWV cardstock stack, Target dollar spot chipboard shapes, heidi grace stamps, SU ink, and ribbon.

Oh, and I even used some old apple print paper that I've had FOREVER...

Not bad, right? Super easy and super cute. Just take note!

My hubby had a little leadership luncheon at our church. We went with a sports theme because he wanted to emphasize working TOGETHER.
I didn't have time to print out anything or get out the Cricut...but he wanted something with the theme written on it.
This is what I came up with. Simple hand-lettered signs and treat bags.

This was made for a recent Etsy order. It's kinda like the Joy Box, but it has verses more geared toward encouragement. The buyer chose every verse and quote. I liked the mailbox for it and chose that instead of the band aid box style.

Coffe Card Swap...

I participated in a swap on a stamping message board that I frequent.
It was my first time swapping here, but I might do it again sometime.
This is what I came up with!

I made a card with Stampin' Up! set called Sip by Sip and used their Top Note die....'course I borrowed the Top Note die, but it is on my wish list. I used it with my Cuttlebug!
I also filled a clear pillow envelope (bought on ebay) with coffee, espresso, and latte candies. The tag was made using a set from Hero Arts that is coffee themed.

Ribbon, Ribbon Everywhere...

Anyway, I have a lot of ribbon.
Ding, ding, ding!! The understatement of the year!!
Okay, enough of that. I do have a lot of ribbon.
I would like to say upfront that I got most of this stuff from swaps, yard sales and clearance bins...
I Corinthians 14:40 says, "Let all things be done decently and in order."
Oops. That has not been happening. So, I thought I'd share some before and after photos.

BEFORE: So I had a whole brown bin full of spools. Some spools on my organizer on the wall, some more in a ribbon organizer case and then random strings and pieces and bits in the metal thingy shown in the picture. Not good at all.

First thing I did was take each spool, wrap them up and tape 'em down. I do not like all the loose ribbon and ends when they come unraveled. Pure chaos! I would like to get some of those tiny (short ones) stick pins to put in them, but this will do for now.
Then I organized by color. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted it by color, type, thickness... I went with color since this is pretty much what I'd need for card making or scrapping. I'd want to start with a certain color rather than grosgrain, sheer, 1/2" or 1/4"... you know what I mean, right?
So, I started putting the spools on my wall organizer in ROY G. BIV order as best as I could.
AFTER:

I put as many up there as I could fit. Then I put the rest into the organizer case. It held the small spools mostly. I also took any rolls that I had double of and put that away in the brown bin. No need to have all that out.

Lastly, I dumped out all the loose ribbon. I have these mostly from swaps that I have participated in in the past. My daughter helped me as I used a flat iron (for their hair) to straighten the ribbon and organize it all. Wow. Anybody need Halloween ribbon? I don't even really do "Halloween". That must've been from a swap.
After I got them all ironed - a ribbon iron by Pebbles Inc. is definitely on my wishlist - I doubled them up and put them in another brown bin. Those sit decoratively on a shelf in my scrap space.

I must say that I was quite inspired by sorting and organizing this. I thought of several cards and layouts that I could do based on the ribbon I had. Is that strange to start with a particular ribbon and go from there?
Oh, well. Whatever works, right? How about the first two to ask, gets some Halloween (and maybe more) ribbon sent their way? Just leave me a comment and mention it!

Made these for the goody bags for my scrapbooking retreat. Did them up in little cellophane bags.
Makes a great grad gift or favor for a party....

Our ladies banquet theme this year was "Bless Our Nest". I've taken quite a liking to birds, cages, nests...

I thought I'd share some pictures of what I came up with and put together for centerpieces and such.

This cage was borrowed, I'd love to find one like it, but I added the nest, baneer, bird, ivy, etc.
This was the main centerpiece.

I had 4 of these - 2 green and 2 cream. The verse on the tags are Psalm 84:3

These were branches that had a little grapevine wreath nest on them and I added some plastic eggs, real feathers and little birdie.

This was the group of them. They looked great on the tables.

Here are some Edible Bird's Nests that we made. You just take chow mein noodles (the crispy, salad bar type) and pour melted chocolate on them. Mix or toss quickly and then carefully form them like nests on wax paper. Place jelly beans or chocolates to resemble eggs. Paste them on with peanut butter. Yum. We had one at every place setting in cellophane bags.

Just wanted to say "Thank you!" to Jayne and everybody else over at Feeling Scrappy. My name was drawn during their blog party and I won some beautiful rub-ons. LOVE me some rub-ons. I am looking forward to some play time real soon. I promise to share what I come up with!!

Fruits of the Spirit...

A very good friend of mine was attending a Ladies Tea and was in charge of decorating three tables. I was happy to be able to help her out with the favors. The first table was a fruit theme and she chose the verse from Galatians that speak on the fruits of the spirit. She provided the jar candles and this is what I came up with.

The little cards were placed on each plate.

I love the bright, cheery colors.

You don't have to spend a whole lot of money to make a table look nice. Add a personal touch to favors without spending a ton of money!

I spent the weekend with 21 awesome ladies at a scrapbooking retreat. I had a great time making new friends and seeing some that I got to know last October at the Northern California retreat. It felt so good to get away and have some down time.
I knew my family was supportive of my get-away time and it was confirmed when I came home to a perfectly clean house. They had the candles lit and the house was smelling great! They wanted to know all about my weekend and kept leaning in for hugs as I told them what all went on.
Well, here's some of what I worked on. I didn't actually scrapbook because I didn't want to stress over organizing my photos and packing, etc. I just worked on some altering and I also made a bunch of cards. I helped out some of the ladies that were also altering for the first time.
Well, here we go!
I made (finished) a banner for my nephew.
Supplies:
Paper-DCWV Animal Crackers, Cricut-All Mixed Up, Mod Podge, Ribbon

I made a bunch of all occasion cards.
I just love the Cupcake set by Inkadinkado!
Supplies: Cupcake stamp set-Inkadinkado, Paper-Bazzil,
Ink-Stampin' Up, Stickles, Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk, buttons,
ribbon, eyelets

I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder and the Swirl
embossing folder on the next two. The white core of the paper shows
through since I sanded it a bit.

I heat embossed the large cupcakes. I also used the blending pen with
the stamp pads and colored everything in like water color.

I got some foam flowers and buttons in my goody bag and thought I'd try them out.

Something simple...

I wanted to give the teachers a little treat "just because". I forgot to take pictures of the first thing I altered, but here are some scented candles in a jar that I prettied up a bit. Just peel off the label and then add rub-ons, decals, stickers, ribbon, etc.
The other thing I gave them was a bottle of hand sanitizer (with the pump) and I did the same thing. I added a ribbon and tag to the neck of the pump and some stickers and that was it!
Just some fun, yet practical ideas.

I've been taking Hannah on drives looking for things to photograph. There was only one category left in photography for the Fine Arts Competion. Film photography...Scenery/Still Life

I took her to the Mission Inn area in downtown Riverside. Lots of old, historical buildings with beautiful architecture.

Anyway, while she was snapping away with the 35 mm Nikon we borrowed, I was snapping away on my digital.

This sign on an old church caught my eye and I had to remember it.

Creativity Project...Day 2

Okay...it's March 2nd and I am busy, busy!! However, I did get to create this cute little mailbox for an Etsy client who teaches early music education. I hope she likes it!

Paper says Music Time and has all sorts of music related words.

It was a friend's birthday, so I gave her this jar full of her favorite candies and a couple of gift cards. I did add ribbon and stuff later, of course. =]

I am feeling like I really need to get out my supplies and get messy. I've had the "feeling" for a while, but it's just been hard to get some me time where I can play. Know what I mean? I can sit at my craft table as much as I want. I make things, I fill orders, but I am talking about getting in the zone - no interruptions - just time to be me with my crafts! It'll come soon. It has to!

The Creativity Project...

So, I saw this on Stacy Julian's blog and thought it would be a good idea to try to stay on top of it for the month of March. The coming of spring shouts newness to me, so I am going to try to do something new. Hopefully, this project will challenge me and make me more aware to consistently and curiously create.

Here was my little thing for today along with something I made a few weeks ago with my Sunday School girls for fun. Sunday's are pretty busy for me, but I usually have time to play a little at my craft table. This is something I made to go out with an etsy order that I'm filling. Just a simple card with a simple sentiment: dream.

This next picture is of a few painted rocks. I told my girls about choosing a word that would "lead" them and help them for 2009 - mine is FOCUS. They each chose a word and then we painted rocks and put our words on them. Great little project. I love Ladybugs, so I thought that the rock would make a cute ladybug and then the heart one is Love to the power of 6. Six in my immediate family. =]

I hope to get some real creating done this week. Not as easy as I thought it'd be with an 18 month old and a 3 year old to keep busy, but they let me play once in a while. =]

You all know I love Etsy! I have been doing a little shopping here and there, because I really haven't had a lot of time to play with my papers and inks lately. Well, recently I found a set of tags that I really liked and it has led me to find a brand-new favorite seller.

Etsy is a place that you can buy or sell hand-made items. You can also find antiques and supplies there. There are so many sellers offering wonderful things on Etsy, that you have to just know what you're looking for or mark a few favorite sellers or just watch the front page to see what's newly listed (these flash through!). Well, I do all of the above.

So one day, a set of bold tags caught my eye. I clicked on them and it took me to Kyla's PaperKrazy Creations and WOW! the prize was right! I hit add to cart faster than anything. LOL

After I bought the tags, I looked around the shop for a while. I knew I was in love. It wasn't long before I received the tags and was so impressed by the quality and the communication from the seller, that I knew I'd be shopping with this seller again! Oh, and she throws in a little freebie too! I have been reading her blog since then and asked her all sorts of questions about her work and she has gone the extra mile every time to explain and answer everything. I decided there and then that I wanted to tell others about this lady! I let her know that I wanted to feature her and buy a set of her great lunch tags to give away. Well, she graciously donated one set, so that I could keep the set that I purchased. I have purchased two sets from her and love them. I've been using them for my girls' lunches and also for birthdays and notes of cheer. You will LOVE these.

I was at the Goodwill store last week looking for a couple of things and I came across this hurricane candle holder. I immediately thought of all my scrap pieces of ribbon that I have in a basket. This would be perfect with all of it's holes, don't ya think?

Then I was at Michael's and had two gift cards that needed to burn. =] I bought a set of Fluid Chalks, but then kept going back to this paper set. It kept calling my name. I picked it up. Looked at it. Looked at the coordinating items in the set...*sigh*. I did have enough to get it...hmmm.... No, I don't really NEED that paper do I? I just like it because it's all whimsy and fun....ugh. I can't resist. Rush back to the end aisle where it was on sale and then - for the first time - remember I have a coupon in my wallet too. Oh, good. Get both packs. Yea! No tough decisions to make today. Just pure, yummy, paper-lovin' fun! =] They are by Colorbok and are from their Friendly Forest line! The first pack came in a sturdy zippered package and includes punch outs, foiled papers, patterened and solid papers, divider tabs, etc. The second pack has 8 shaped specialty papers. Mmmmm...love it!

This is a very simple album that I completed as a gift for someone. I usually try to take pictures at an event and then make a small album of some sort for the person "of honor". I needed an album that was small because I really didn't have too many photos. I didn't like any of the 7x7

CM albums I had on hand (wrong colors), so Desiree offered me a few choices. She had some 8x8's that had been on her shelf "forever", she says. This one was opened and had a few smudges and was kinda dusty. It cleaned up real well, though - don't you think? I added the ribbon and you can see just a few pages. This album was kept simple and I left the journaling for the birthday girl.
